The Classic and Historic Motor Club visited  us in October to present a cheque for £600 following their annual Mendip Run event.  We are once again very lucky to have been the benefiting charity and in total we have received £1000 from this year's event.  We are delighted to continue our association with the Motor Club and are most grateful for their continuing support.  Pictured are Nic Shaw, John Alcock and Roger Dollins all from the Motor Club and members of the Burcott group together with Arnold, one of our four legged volunteers.

Donation in memory of Gill Creed

Gill is a remarkable lady who set up the first RDA group in the area in the mid 1980s. Wookey Hole and Wells group ran successfully for 25 years in which time Gill was continually active both raising funds and helping at the weekly sessions.

She transported ponies every week and had a dedicated enthusiasm for any job that needed doing, taking genuine delight  in the achievements of the riders.

When Wookey Hole and Wells group folded they merged with Burcott group and despite her failing health Gill continued to support in any way she could.

Gill's funeral was on a Tuesday, the day we run our sessions.  My first thought was to cancel so we could all attend but then I had a very strong feeling Gill would have hated all those riders to miss out on their riding. So we held all our rides on that cold March day in her memory.

One of our members attended and came to the yard afterwards to share details of the service with us. I hope Gill would have approved.

We were very grateful to receive a generous donation from the collection on that day, in the memory of an inspirational lady who helped set us all on the path to providing the service we do today. Thank you Gill.

Ride Aid

A concert by three local choirs held on the 5th of July at the Blue School in Wells. Several RDA helpers were singing as well as one or our riders. A great night enjoyed by all raised an impressive amount.

Thanks to Wookey Choirworks, Street Sings!, Street Men and the Cast of Joseph.

All expertly led by Polly Carroll, accompanied by Jane Roberts and Carolyn Doorbar.

Also to Mulberry, Cheddar Ales and Enchanted Forals who donated raffle prizes and Mr. Jackson of the Blue School who allowed us to use the hall and technical lighting.

Glastonbury and Street and City of Wells Lions Clubs

Glastonbury, Street and City of Wells Lions Clubs are annually involved in staging a Music Spectacular at Strode Theatre in Street.  The proceeds from the concerts are divided between Somerset Music and the Lions Clubs, who then make donations to local children’s charities.  This year Burcott and District Riding for the Disabled Group is delighted to have been chosen as their recipient charity and we have recently been presented with a cheque for £1,000.  We would like to say a very big thank you to the Glastonbury & Street and City of Wells Lions Club for their generosity and support of our group.

Classic and historic motor club

Burcott & District Riding for the Disabled Group would like to say a big thank you to the Mendip Vintage and Classic Tour organisers for their continuing support of us.  Each year, in conjunction with the Classic and Historic Motor Club, a touring event is held.  The tour covers a large area of the county and always culminates on the Cathedral Green, with the Cathedral providing a wonderful back drop to the cars.  As a group we always enjoy the day out and have great fun raffling a beautiful Sturgeon print which is donated to us by the Mendip organisers.  In addition to this, a donation is made from the proceeds taken on the day and this year together with the raffle totalled nearly £1,500.  A very big thank you goes to Celia & Jim Sheppard and all their colleagues for their continued support.
